Over the past few weeks, we have connected with many of you, including during the kick-off call on March 6 with publishers, as well as the lunch session on January 29 with Hillary Slattery, to explore the evolving role of AI in our industry. These conversations clearly show that significant changes are underway, and that collaboration is essential.
We are currently facing several major developments:
- Rising bot traffic: Approximately 51% of traffic is now generated by bots
- AI & content scraping: AI companies are increasingly using publisher content to train models, often without compensation
- Fragmentation and complexity: In areas such as CTV and measurement, many different standards and systems still coexist
- Technological and market pressure: Privacy regulations, signal loss, and platform dominance are making monetization more challenging
While many of these challenges are global, in the Netherlands they are still being addressed in a fragmented way. A national working group could help our advertising industry respond more effectively and collectively to these structural market changes.
